Marvel has unveiled superstar cover artist J. Scott Campbell's variant for the Amazing Fantasy #1000, hitting the stands on August 31st and celebrating Spider Man's 60th anniversary. This issue shows a somewhat modern Spider-Man slinging his web through a city with a retro title below and immediately is very eye catching.
The artistry is done by both artist and colorist Sabine Rich, and J. Scott Campbell, and their skill is plain to see here. Campbell has also worked on anniversary variant covers for Thor #25, (which is on sale now) and Hulk #5, which will be released on 5/25, with many more variants to come.
The writers include Neil Gaiman, Armando Iannucci, Dan Slott, Anthony Falcone, Ho Che Anderson, Rainbow Rowell, Jonathan Hickman, Jim Cheung, Michael Cho and more.
Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko collaborated on the cover of Amazing Fantasy #15 which was released in 1962, where Spider Man was first introduced. It is one of the most iconic images in Marvel's history & was released over 60 years ago.
“It’s a thrill and an honor to create cover art celebrating the 60th anniversary of characters that have become so iconic and ingrained in our culture. I really wanted to make images that would have a visual bridge from the pulpy 4 color origins of these monumental heroes to the modern-day slick coloring and production we are now all familiar with.” MARVEL PRESS RELEASE
