A galaxy far, far away will look to be even further than before, with the upcoming additions to the star wars universe.

That’s right, after decades of seeing fan favorites like Han, Vader, obi-wan, and more faces return to the big and little screens consecutively, Taika Waititi, previously known for his Oscar award-winning film, JoJo Rabbit, and Marvels, Thor: Ragnarök, wants to shift the Star Wars universe into a completely new direction.

In a recent interview conducted by Total Film, Waititi stated “I think for the ‘Star Wars’ universe to expand, it has to expand,”.

The director then went on to say, “I don’t think that I’m any use in the ‘Star Wars’ universe making a film where everyone’s like, ‘Oh great, well that’s the blueprints to the Millennium Falcon, ah that’s Chewbacca’s grandmother.’”

With Waititi’s upcoming entry into the Star Wars universe not set to be released until sometime in December 2025, not much is known about the upcoming movie, even the name is still yet to be known. However, one thing is clear, and that’s that this movie is going to be taken in a completely new direction.

Furthermore, the overall reception from fans seemed to be overwhelmingly positive. With fans claiming, “this is the mindset we need from a director”, and many others exclaiming an overall positive response to Waititi’s statements.

The current state of Star Wars is highly praised right now and shows like the Obi-Wan Series, The Mandalorian, and more are currently hitting it out of the park with Star Wars fans. Shows like the upcoming Ahsoka and Andor series, and a new season of the critically acclaimed Mandalorian, It’s safe to say that the Star Wars universe is changing for what looks to be the better.

Especially now, after what Waititi said he wants to do for the new Star Wars movie, and where he envisions it going. It looks like it’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan.
